Some of us are working on our Citizenship in the Community merit badge right now, so tonight we took a field trip to City Hall. The mayor asked us to introduce ourselves to the council at the microphone. It was very interesting at the beginning, a little confusing in the middle, and by the end I think we had lost our attention span. BUT, we managed to sit still and absorb as much as possible.
It was really interesting to see how city government works. A couple of notable topics were the renaming of a street called Leatherneck Lane to Community Place and a contentious debate about property taxes and mill levies. There is a lot I didn't understand, and I think that probably our city officials aren't paid enough.
